History of Seville Airport

In 1914, the first plane to fly between the peninsula and Morocco landed at the temporary airport at Tablada, which had been constructed for an air festival the previous year. After this, the municipal administration of Seville gave the Military Aeronautics Association a plot measuring land for constructing an airstrip. The airport's construction began in 1915, and pilot and observer training began the same year.

The first commercial flights between Seville and Madrid began in 1919. An air mail service between Seville and Larache was established the following year. The first commercial Spanish route between Seville and Larache was established in 1921.

In 1923, several facilities, including hangars, workshops, and premises, were established. A municipal airport of 750 by 500 meters will be constructed at one end of the military aerodrome airfield at Tablada.

In April 1927, Unión Aérea Española launched the aviation service Madrid-Seville-Lisbon. The Seville airport project was approved in February 1929. The Tablada airport was opened for flights and aviation traffic in March. It was determined that this service would end upon completing the planned airport.
